ANTY-HOP BY LAW IS NECESSARY

SABAH DAP KK Parliamentary Youth Chief, Junz Wong said that there is a need to implement a law to prevent politicians from hopping from one party to another party. The act of hopping has tarnished the good standing of legislators and politics. The ‘hopping’ politicians have made the public lose their interest in the voting exercise. This political scenario is very unhealthy in Malaysia in the long term.

Junz learned that the public feel unsecured and uncertain at times not knowing if the candidates they have choose will or will not jump ship. In view of this, a responsible government must ensure that no politicians should hop from party to another party especially after an election where the winner has a small majority.

It was understand that the anti-hop law was enacted but considered an infringement to rights of association by the Federal court. Interestingly the court did not address the infringement made by these hopping politicians on voters. Hopping of politicians can destabilize a government and the nation.

Junz urge the BN government to formulate a law that will protect the voters against these hopping politicians. Junz is certain that when the Pakatan Rakyat take over the government will come up with an Anti Hop By Law to stop the p and betray the votes.

A hopping politician must be penalized by ensuring that he loses his seat thus paving the way for a by-election. This is only fair to the people of Malaysia because they have voted their representative on that particular platform. This anti-hopping law will also prevent horse-trading and money politics.
