PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION

Dear Editor,

I Have a Question For William Sampil, Victor Kou Lee Chong, Soudi Samy, Donald Mojuntin And Bernard Dompok.

My question to the 5 of you is, if the 5 of you were to read, evaluate, analyse and discuss the following issues which has taken root in Penampang for some years now, will the 5 of you be committed in taking pro-active measures in resolving the issues of which the ‘rakyat’ can see, feel and experience the changes within the next 90 days or will the 5 of you get into a denial state? The ‘rakyat’ prays and hopes it's the former.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to visit various towns within Malaysia and I have come to realize that when a home grown politician is serving or has served as a federal minister, the town he or she originates from somehow has that extra sparkle. For example towns like Pekan, Kepala Batas, Sg. Siput, Kuala Kangsar, etc. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Donggongon and the surrounding areas of Penampang.

Following are some critical problems or issues that needs immediate attention:

Donggongon township requires a total clean-up. There is an urgent need to resurface all the roads and to increase the number of cops patrolling the town particularly at night. Ensure all the retailers keep their premises clean and tidy. Don't forget the drains.

With WAM, I was able to detect the following issues within the Donggongon township:

*CKS - Excruciating stench coming from the areas next to the supermarket.

*Tamu - The famous tamu grounds needs spring cleaning and a paint job.

*Mega Long - Car park security needs more personnel.

*Market - Are the Penampang folks expecting a new market before 2020?

Penampang - The town council must ensure that the environment, landscape, security and curbing social ills are given top priority. JKR Sabah must ensure quality management systems are in place at all construction sites within the Penampang area.

WAM has also detected the following issues for the areas within Penampang:

*Regular fogging needed in all areas.

*All waterways and tributaries must be cleaned up and protected at all cost.

*The landscapes in many housing estates have been neglected for some time and

needs immediate attention. The drains need to be cleaned and treated urgently.

*Additional police personnel for the Penampang area. On some

days I hardly noticed any cops patrolling the area.

*Illegal squatter colonies are mushrooming in many areas in Penampang. The state government and the federal government must have the guts to resolve the squater issue almost immediately. Why the procrastination? Remember people first, performance now!

To save time and more unproductive meetings, it would be wise for the Penampang Town Council to adopt and implement the SCP. In my personnel opinion the SCP is a brilliant idea.

As reported, Housing And Local Government Minister, Datuk Chor Chee Heung said, the Ministry would allocate RM102 million to assist the local councils to adopt and effectively execute the programmed.

Safe Cities Programme (SCP)

1.How many local council's in Sabah are involved with the SCP?

2.How much of the allocation will be redirected to the Penampang Town Council?

3.If the allocation has already been given, what did the local council do with the money?

Following are some of the key result areas of the SCP:

1.Safety is of paramount importance to every citizen.

2.Aimed at ensuring cities were free from crime, natural disasters, social illnesses and

accidents.

3.Unkempt areas are also required to be cleaned and cleared.

4.Closed circuit television(CCTV) cameras are to be installed as well as having sufficient lighting and safety mirrors.

I feel that effective utilization of available resources can help tackle local council problems. Problems will always arise; it is the drought of action that aggravates the situation.

Please be reminded that its, performance now! By the way WAM simply means, 'Walk About Management.'

Regards,

DOMINIC GERARD JOSEPH
