THE Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Dr. Hiew King Cheu requested the DBKK to pay special attention to the environment in the Taman Foh Sang shop especially the big storm drain behind the shops here. The early morning market shoppers and hawkers are complaining on the poor condition of the surrounding area which is dirty, smelly, crowded, very untidy and unsightly.

Hiew suggested that the DBKK should first consider providing covers and to close the top of the big storm drain with concrete planks, and then construct canopy over the covered drain to provide a conducive and wider working space for the hawkers and walking space for the shoppers.

The lighting facilities should also be provided to help the hawkers and shoppers during the early hours. The people who are operating here used to depend on torch lights during the early hours from 4 am to 6 am. This problem was solved when the MP office installed the four overhead streetlights to shine the back lane for the hawkers and shoppers during early morning hours. The electricity bill is paid by the MP office.

The DBKK had recently made a visit to the area to identify the problems here and the people here hope that the DBKK can also look into the car parking problems faced by the people who frequently come to Foh Sang for coffee and go to the early morning market.

It is necessary to act upon the various problems here in Foh Sang and everyone here hopes that DBKK can really do something to improve the situation soon. They also requested DBKK to look into resurfacing the pavements and walkways with new tiles to provide a uniform and level walkway. The walkways here are long due for resurfacing due on the broken surface. Many people had fallen and got their toes hurt due to the broken walkway surfaces with lose tiles and metal pieces.

It is a small job for DBKK, but it is something that the Foh Sang people longing for a long period.
