FICKLE-MINDED JEFFREY DOES A U-TURN AGAIN

By: LUKE RINTOD

MAVERICK Sabah politician Jeffrey Kitingan has done another U-turn on his aides over his resignation from PKR.

A day after Jeffrey’s deputy in the Kadazan-Dusun-Murut Task Force in Sabah PKR, Daniel John Jambun, in a show of support said he and the rest of the task force committee members would quit PKR en bloc, Jeffrey denied he would do so.

The former PKR vice-president, who is now just an ordinary party member, said through an aide, Guandee Kohoi, that he has not quit the party ‘yet’.

Jeffrey’s denial has thrown his ‘inner circle’ of loyal supporters, who were believed to have copies of his resignation letter to party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, into disarray.

Sources within the circle are not amused and have described Jeffrey’s latest stunt as typical of the wavering politician.

“This is not funny anymore. It’s typical Jeffrey and his fickle mind. I think he wants to do some last- minute bargaining with Anwar (Ibrahim, PKR de facto leader).

“While I admire Jeffrey’s patience,he is allowing others to weaken him, to the detriments of his own struggle to ensure Sabah and Sarawak are heard and their wishes complied with. How many times must he be lied to before he realises and acts?” said a source, referring to Jeffrey’s quest for Borneonisation and autonomy for Sabah and Sarawak through his newly-formed United Borneo Front.

Overnight turnaround

The source said Jeffrey’s overnight turnaround could have been due to Tian Chua, a PKR vice- president, who attended a post-Christmas party hosted by Jeffrey recently.

In another related development, PKR vice-head for Tenom division, Gonsubin Yosundang, told FMT that he and about 13 other committee members of the Tenom division would quit PKR very soon.

Last week, another former PKR head for Putatan, Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari, a strong ally of Jeffrey, had announced he was quitting PKR with immediate effect. He claimed at the time that several more PKR divisional leaders would quit soon.

When Awang Ahmad Sah announced his resignation in Tambunan Golf Club near here, Jeffrey was present but in another section of the club.

Jeffrey was seen with Awang Ahmad Sah and other PKR members at the clubhouse immediately after the announcement.
