THE PKR Kota Maradu Chief, Anthony Mandiau and his committee member Donny Kenidis invited the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu to inspect the road project linking from Kota Marudu to Marak Parak and this road is joining from Marak Parak to Masilau and Poring Ranau.

They inspected the completed Phase 1 of the road which is about 10 kilometers long and sealed with asphalt. They continued and proceeded to the second stretch of the Phase 2 road which they found no work had been carried out.

The phase 2 about 10 KM of the road had been announced quite some time ago, but until today there is no sign of any work commencing. According to sources of information, there is no allocation and fund made available to get the work started.

The 25 KM road linking from Kota Marudu to Marak Parak is hardly passable during rainy days and the gravel road is in a very bad condition. There are many heavy trucks, cars and mini buses using this road and it is the only road to connect up the towns.

Many students have to depend on the road to get to their schools, and usually they faced road closure in wet weather and dusty condition in dry weather. The people complain about this for a long time now, and may be at least 20 years.

The question is why the government never paid attention to get the short stretch of road like this to be sealed quickly. It is one Malaysia Plan after another, and now we are in the 10th Malaysia Plan, do we have to suffer continuously, or we have wait for the new government to come into power to build the road?

“The Federal and state government always said that there is no program not being completed under the previous Malaysia Plan, but this is one of the solid proofs that they are not telling the truth and just bringing the people in Sabah for a ride. We can easily find many such cases as the promised project by the BN government which never came true”, said Anthony Mandiau.

He further said that in Kota Marudu, there is little development during the past decades and the people here continue to live under low income and not much prospect for improvement in their living standard and well being.

When compared with other parts of Malaysia especially with the Semenanjong towns, we are definitely far behind. Our Kampong is still the old traditional kampong without improvement, but when compared with the Semenanjong Kampongs, they have actually become major towns, tourism spot and industrial centers.

That is why our government had totally neglected the development and upgrading of our forgotten villages in Kota Marudu, Tandek, Pitas, Matunggon and Marak Parak.

Just imagine, the bad road linking to Marak Parak which is in such a bad condition who would like to visit and do business there? Without the service of a good road how can the government mention about bringing development to the area.

This road is of vital importance to the rural development. It is a total negligence and failure on the part of the BN government to bring about prosperity to the rural district. We demand that the road is to be started immediately without further delay.
