SG KARANG ROAD, ANOTHER SICK NKRA?

SCANDALOUS…..The impassible new Jalan Sg. Karang.

By: DAP MEDIA

CLEARLY, all the hype on the Government Transformation Programme (GTP), Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and the National Key Results Areas (NKRA) has failed to work their magic on the people as expected.Kudat Jalan Sg. Karang road totally damaged shortly after completion

The new road linking the Kudat Main road to the Sg. Karang is totally damaged shortly after its completion. The road surface is now filled with deep depressions, cracked up asphalt layer, hip of earth and pools of water and it is impassable to small vehicle during rainy days. The whole stretch of road which costs some RM3.5 million to build as a highway is now totally ruined.

This was highlighted to the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu during his visit to the Kudat district. He was brought to see for himself the awful stage of the road by the people who use the Jalan Sg. Karang regularly.

According to the people there, the new road was not built according to the specification and standard, and that is why the new road is now totally spoiled. The road surface including its road base had turned over and leaving only the earth beneath it.

BROKEN….. Hiew inspecting a piece of the broken down asphalt layer

The bridge had also collapsed recently leaving many road users without access. The bridge was rebuilt, but very unfortunately it was built with second hand steel girders and a timber deck with a weight limit of 15 ton only.

Just imagine why a high way which supposed to be fit with a loading of 30 ton but with a bridge that can only carry 15 ton, what is the logic and is there anything wrong? Furthermore a new highway fitted with a narrow single lane timber-deck bridge just looks funny enough.

From the observation and inspection made on site, it is clear that the road base and sub base were too thin and in many places yellow earth can be seen from the road surface. In many places the road surface were heaving up and the asphalt surface has totally disappeared.

MP Hiew and the Sabah DAP Kudat leaders felt very disappointed with this poor stage of the road which was constructed with millions of Ringgits of the tax payer’s money. He said how can this be allowed to happen, and who is responsible and the road is built by which Ministry, authority, department or council? Somebody must be held responsible and liable, and we cannot just let the situation be kept uncovered and swept underneath the carpet, and be forgotten.

The KK MP Hiew wants the Sabah government to immediately come up with a report and made it public on what is happening to the Kudat Jalan Sg. Karang. This shall not be kept silent and we determine to bring the matter out into the open and put the matter straight.

This is because we cannot tolerate such ill-management and bad utilization of the people’s money. This is going too far. If the Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman do not investigate into this matter, and give us a favorable report publicly, he should also resign on the count of not performing his duty as the Chief Minister of Sabah.

DANGEROUS What happen to this bridge?

The Sabah DAP Kudat will also refer and report the case of the badly built Jalan Sg. Karang to the MACC for a thorough investigation to probe into the reason and on the count of whether any corrupt practice were involved in the road project.

“If you want to see the worst road condition in Sabah, please come to Kudat”, Hiew was told by some Kudat folks. They also said that they have been totally deprived of their basic rights and being forgotten by the BN government. There are many more bad roads all over the Kudat District. They further said that if the BN government can’t even do a few kilometer of road good and fit for traffic, what else can we expect from them to do good for Sabahas a whole?
