‘PREFABRICATED’ MODULAR FOR PPRT HOUSE

By : DAP INTERIOR MEDIA

THE issue of PPRT housing projects implemented by the Government is commendable, and good for the hardcore poor families, especially in the rural interior of Sabah.

Dr Benjamin Yapp, Sabah DAP Parliamentary Liaison Chief for Keningau and Tenom expressed his sincere gratitudes to all parties concerned in contributing towards the alleviation of poverty in Sabah.

He has carried out several researches relating to social, economic and political development in the interior of Sabah for the past one year, and founded that poverty and lack of basic rural infrastructures were still the most critical factors needed to be addressed.

Albeit he had brought up a number of issues pertaining to the hardcore poor living conditions in dilapidated houses in the rural interior of Sabah, many a times his media statements were being challenged by irresponsible people who denied the truths until certain responsible politicians supported the fact that there actually were the real situations facing thousands of rural hardcore poor families in the rural areas.

It is useless to argue and quarrel among one another, but to find a better, alternative way to resolve the problems faced by the hardcore poor. Dr Benjamin in his statement made in Keningau that in view of the great demands for PPRT houses for the hardcore poor in the rural areas and interior of Sabah, an alternative, innovative plan should be implemented on a pilot project related to the introduction of ‘Prefabricated’ modular country housing project in place of the conventional concrete PPRT houses for rural areas.

According to Dr Benjamin, who is also a Member of the World Affairs Council. USA found that the prefabricated modular/movable houses are not only built from materials of high-quality, and competitive prices but there are very practical and suitable for fast completion in a matter of 2-4 weeks to be built in the rural interior.

The state of the arts building design of this prefabricated modular house is very convenience and easy to assemble. Instead of spending a single unit of PPRT concret house for a hardcore family that may cost between RM20,000 -RM30,000, perhaps, we could build 3-4 units of prefabricated modular houses to accommodate the hardcore poor families with a cheaper rate of materials and less labour charges!

Sabah DAP urged the YBs who have been allocated with a huge amount of RM1 Million each to contribute part of their State Assemblyman's fund to help the hardcore poor families to build the Prefabricated modular houses for the unfortunate families in their respective State Constituencies.

We hope that the YBs would show their compassions and willingness to use their allocation from the public funds for a better and noble contribution for the betterment of our society in a State of Sabah that is regarded as the poorest state in Malaysia, albeit we have rich natural resources and abundant of rich fertile lands that should be rightly called a ‘land of milk and honey’ said Dr Benjamin Yapp whose vision is to seek the assistance of sincere and able leaders to complement with the Government towards socio-economic development for the people of Sabah.

  1. If building this prefabricated modular house is very convenience and easy to assemble, then this idea should be considered because it reduces the labour cost.

  3. Good suggestion! But bare in mind that sometimes, the localities & terrain of each of every site is different, so the heavy machinery use to lift the prefabricated modular sometimes cannot be used...

  4. I commend Benjamin Yapp for able to discuss this with an open mind without criticism. This is what we need, people who are willing to discuss about issues and find a way to solve it, rather than just accusing or criticizing.

  5. His suggestion can be considered since this will significantly reduce the cost and time of building. But this may need some studies to ensure whether it is suitable.

  6. Lebih baik berbincang untuk menyelesaikan masalah kemiskinan di Sabah daripda berdebat dan menuding kesalahan kepada orang lain.
