FROM THE ROCK TO THE ‘ROLLING STONE’

ROLLING…. The Kampong folks pointing at the bad Jalan Sayap with KK MP Hiew.

By : DAP MEDIA

IT was quite an experience to drive into the most remote kampong area of Kota Belud through the 20 over kilometers of bumpy, full of pot holes, cracked, lined with huge rocks in the road centre, slippery, narrow, steep, dangerous, and you name it, it is all there, and this is the Kg. Sayap road in Kota Belud.

This is the real experience for the KK MP Hiew King Cheu during his visit to Kg. Sayap in Kota Belud on last Sunday afternoon with the Pakatan Rakyat group.

He was invited by the Pakatan Rakyat team to conduct a visit to the kampongs here in Kota Belud to see for himself the many problems here. The PKR Sabah State Wanita Chief Madam Lukia Indan drove the MP in her 4x4 vehicle, and had to drive very slowly into the remote kampongs in the areas. The team went to several kampongs and finally reached the Kg. Sayap where the kampong folks were waiting for their arrival.

A short dialogue was conducted with the kampong folks and the various problems were highlighted to the PR team. Hiew gave a short but very enlightening talk on the latest national and local political situation to the people who gathered to listen to him, and there he emphasized that it is time to change for a new government to bring along progress into this remote poor kampong.

He said he was really shocked to see the very bad condition of the road leading to the many kampongs here in Kota Belud, especially when they are in the 21st century now. This is too much, and he said this is a real live indication of the bad treatment received by the kampong folks after voting again and again for the BN into power. What do they get in return, is it fair for them?

Just imagine, these poor people do not ask for big development projects here or industries to be set up here, they just want to have a better road and yet they have heard promises after promises, and they had supported BN elections after elections. One elder here proclaimed that he had listened enough and he will not believe all those sweet promises which by the end became a pack of lies and given them with empty hopes.

SORROW…. Hiew and Lukia photo with the kampong folks with sorrow feeling.

This Jalan Sayap is the only access road available to enter the many kampongs in Sayap, the road has not been maintained for many years. It is almost impassible by vehicles now. The 2,000 over villagers here requested immediate work to be carried out to level the road and get the road surface sealed with asphalt/premix. We cannot bear the pain having to drive everyday on this bad road and have our vehicles damaged by the bad road. Who is going to pay for my repair cost and suffering? Is the BN YBs going to reimburse us?

Hiew explained to the Kampong folks in Kg. Sayap that this road should be built or maintained by the Federal Ministry of Rural Development, and he will send their request and all the photos, details, and the report to the Ministry concern. He also wants the local BN YBs to immediately do the same to get the department to start working on the road. This will be a good Parliament subject for discussion and to be raised to the attention of the Minister.

“It is only 20 Kilometers of gravel road in Jalan Sayap, if you BN (YBs) can’t do it or if you don’t care, it is better for you not coming back here and not to beg us for our votes to support you to win and lie to us one more time”, said one lady from the Kampong.

  1. Immediate actions need to be taken, otherwise people will lose hope. Don't let promise remains only promise.

  2. Your YB has to be more aggressive (in a good way) to propose this matter. Sometimes proposal had been done but no allocation. What to do?
