BN EXCELLENT IN ‘TAUFO’ PROJECT

BAD LOOKING….Front Entrance of Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu.

By : DAP MEDIA

THE BUILDINGS in the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic are showing some sign of problem and even ground settlement in many areas. This has created many worries among the lecturers and students here.

The main Block B building were evacuated and curtained off from entering. Many outside pavements, walkway and drains walls are having big settlement and sinking up to few feet, and this is definitely not a good sign for these buildings. The ground settlement has affected the infrastructure facilities here.

The KK Polytechnic was completed in 2003, and it is only a short 8 years from then, why there are so many problems appearing?

The Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu, the Sri Tanjung Assemblyman Jimmy Wong Tze Ping with Edward Ewol Mujie and member Allem Chieng, Mitchell Tai went on site to evaluate the degree of damage on the buildings.

The Sabah DAP team was accompanied by the Director of the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic Mr. Mustafah Kamar Ujang who took them around and explained to them on the situation that the Polytechnic is facing.

They were totally shocked by the big settlement of the ground and the apparent cracks on the walls here. In some cases the ground settlement is so great that below the floor slabs are seen totally hanging and empty, and one might think that the building will not be able to stand upright anymore and be safe for use.

RIDICULOUS…..(1) Hollow underneath floor slab (2) Settled manhole (3) Original ground level (4) Crack on wall.

MP Hiew asked why this can happen and who is responsible for such bad work. Is it the Federal JKR, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Local authorities, or the DBKK? The question is now the students and the lecturers are at risk in using those potentially dangerous and may be unsafe buildings?

What is the purpose of spending some hundred of millions Ringgits to only get some buildings that are cracked and with the ground sinking?

MP Hiew was told by the Director Mustafah Kamar Ujang that the Federal JKR had came to access the damages and defects, and they had instructed the Polytechnic to close the Block B of the main block which is just next to the main admin office. The repair and rebuilding contracts had been awarded and the contractor will start work in September 2011.

KK MP Hiew said this is another BN’s ‘Taufo Building Project’. There are many other Taufo projects in Sabah, and the recent case happened to the newly completed Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 multi-storey car park which is having multiple cracks developing on the floor slabs.

LEVEL….(A) Original ground level (B) Settled ground level

The general public is getting very angry with the BN government, and obviously this is the bad management and supervision due to their slackness and irresponsible attitude on performing their entrusted duties.

The other sad case is the Kingfisher Park Bridge which is having problem while the new bridge is being constructed next to it. The old bridge is experiencing some structural problem now which is believed to be caused by the new construction piling work. The JKR is doing some remedial work to strengthen the piers of the existing bridge. The work on the main piers of the new bridge is now suspended.

This reflects the government is in serious trouble due to their bad management of the people’s project, and on the bad spending of public fund. These defects or eventual demolition and rebuilding will cost the tax payers additional many hundred millions Ringgits more. This is definitely no joke, and what should we do about the BN government? Should we sack them out from the government during PRU13.
