KG. POROK BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ABANDONED

ABANDON…. PR team at the abandoned bridge work site in Kg. Porok Takuli, Beaufort.

By : DAP MEDIA

The Pakatan Rakyat team in Beaufort had brought the PR Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu from Kota Kinabalu for a kampong visit in the Beaufort district to understand more on the suffering of the people here.

The PR leaders here welcome the regular visit of the PR MP Hiew to the Beaufort district, and among them were Edward Ewol Mujie, Taufik Ruschi, Ruslipah Sahat, Jamil Zakaria, Ong Boon Ho and the other members from the Beaufort PR.

The abandoned construction of the Kg. Porok Takuli Bridge has become the main purpose of the visit by the MP and the PR group. According to the complaints received by the people in the Kampong, the construction of this new bridge had started many years ago and it is so ill-fated that it has faced up with delay and three contractors had already failed the construction work.

The work site is now totally abandoned for a long time now. The steel girders are getting rusty and the temporary work already collapsed and fallen into the river.

The oil palm small holders and pine apple planters on the opposite side of the river are faced up with a big problem in getting their fruits across the river. They are using a small wooden foot bridge to cross and to transport their produce using wheel barrows. It is not only hard work by also very risky to cross, and at anytime they might fall into the deep river.

MP Hiew wonders why the government constructing a simple bridge is taking up a long time since 2004 and had changed three contractors. This bridge remains abandoned after the last contractor left the job site. There is no action taken by the authorities since then.

The people there begin to wonder whether the government is serious about completing the bridge for them. They just sit and do nothing. They said this is a typical BN job, and it is totally a case of faulty direct award and the work of some unqualified contractors. Is this one of those contracts that the government did not made payment?

The true fact is that the government has again failed the people in Beaufort by not being able to carry out a simple construction work on a bridge here. How can they say “people first”? Hiew wants the responsible government agencies to immediately restart the work without further delay and get the bridge completed at once. The fruits will get rotten because of the slow transferring across the river.

Pakatan Rakyat will continue to expose the many bad doing of the BN government along with its bad management in Sabah.
