THE PEOPLE in Putatan are really angry with the constant sewerage blockage and the inconvenience caused by the overflowing of foul sewerage water all over the place especially near the eating shops and clinic.
PR KK MP Hiew King Cheu and Edward Ewol Mujie were brought in to inspect the situation of the sewerage overflowing in the Putatan town area. The sewerage system in Putatan town is not being built according to the fast development in the area.
There is no central sewerage system and no proper central sewerage treatment plant. The foul water is being distributed into small septic tanks or individual package treatment plants. In some area, the foul sewerage has to be pumped and transported away for disposal by tanker trucks.
There are frequent blockages of the sewer pipes in the shop lots and causing overflow of foul water onto the pavement of the shops next to the Putatan Tamu ground. The Putatan Council has to stand by workers to pump up the dirty foul water from the overflowing manhole to discharge into a nearby septic tank to be transported away by sewerage tanker trucks regularly. Hiew and Edward witnessed one of the operations on the pumping of foul water.
MP Hiew wants the Putatan Council to immediate work on the long term plan and design to implement a proper sewerage disposal system in the whole of Putatan town and for the nearby housing estate and any future development. We cannot sit and do nothing while the town is expending at a very rapid rate, and the sewerage problem keep piling up to cause severe pollution of the area.
He suggested that the raw sewerage from Putatan can be easily connected to the new sewerage treatment plant located at the Penampang By-pass in Kapayan. This is just a few kilometers away from Putatan.
