DEEP ROAD SIDE HOLE CAUSED BROKEN LEG

HOLE…..The victim showing the deep hole to Hiew and Stephen.

A DEEP road side hole at the road junction of the Jalan Nossob near Oriental Park branching off to the Taman Delima had caused a man who were jogging to step in and broke his legs along with some other scratches on his body.

The jogger did not see the deep hole at the road side because it is covered with long grass and cannot be noticed while he was jogging along the road side. He stepped in and fell with heavy pain on his one leg which got stuck in the hole, which is 18 inches wide.

He couldn’t get out of the hole until he was helped by a young lady who was passing by. By then he already felt that his leg had sustained serious injuries. He was later brought to the hospital for treatment by his friends living nearby.

This had happened some days ago on the 6th of September, and on Sunday he only had a chance to come out from resting to see the KK MP Hiew King Cheu and the Sabah DAP Branch Chairman, Stephen Jimbangan to highlight the case to them and hope they can help him.

Mr. Guvalakrisnan said that it is very unfortunate that the deep hole is not covered up or filled up by the authorities and just leaving it open to wait for some one to fall into it. He said it is lucky that only one leg went into the hole, but if both legs went in, there will be bigger trouble.

He is having great difficulty to walk now and he can not work until today. He sustained heavy losses for not working and the bills on his medical treatment are high. He worked as a contractor and his work is ceased now.

Hiew and Stephen view the case of the 3 feet deep hole at the road side as a potential trap to bring much danger to the passer-by. The hole is actually not noticeable especially when you are jogging along the road and there are cars coming from behind. Guvalakrisnan couldn’t have noticed the hole which is covered by grass.

It is lucky that he fell on the road shoulder but not on the road, or otherwise it will be more damages or even life lost if he was hit by a passing car.

In cases like this, the authorities are normally liable and should be held responsible. Hiew recommended to the victim to take up the case with the relevant authorities and file in a claim for compensation from the authorities concerned. The authorities have insured themselves by taking up insurance policies under ‘Public Liabilities’ to protect the people from the miss doing caused by them.

Stephen Jimbangan reminds the authorities to constantly check on the various public places which processed danger to the people should be immediately put right to avoid incident like this.

He said “precaution is always then cure”. In Penampang especially in Kapayan area there are many places needed immediate attention by DBKK and the Penampang District Council, he doesn’t mind to identify and point out to the authorities at any time they want, but they must come to put right and not wait until someone is hurt.
