“NO one is above the law, including police officers,” Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Hamza Taib said this of investigations into last Thursday's murder of a 27-year-old salesgirl in the Keningau District.
He said police were trying to establish the motive behind the killing of widow Kartini Borhan, adding that no arrests had been made yet.
“We are investigating the case from all angles, including claims that it was a love affair gone wrong,” he added.
“We are not ruling out anything and will take action against whoever commits the offence, including if they were my officers,” Hamza said.
According to the police, Kartini died after being stabbed while her friend, a police inspector, suffered a fractured leg and hand besides multiple stab wounds after allegedly trying to fight off the assailant, whom police said had broken into her rented house.
The policeman, an investigating officer with the Keningau CID, said he had rushed to the house at about 4.40am after receiving Kartini's distress call and alleged he had seen her struggling with a knife-wielding man.
A news report on the Sabahkini.net portal quoted a family member as saying that police were not revealing everything about the case and that jealousy was the motive behind Kartini's death.
Hamza said police had taken a statement from the 29-year-old inspector who was recovering at the Keningau hospital.
