KG KELAWAT ALMOST FORGOTTEN BY PEOPLE

CHEERS….Hiew, Edward photo with the people in Kg Kelawat.

THE Sabah DAP had visited the remote Kg Kelawat in the remote area of the Kota Belud District. The kampong is used to be on the Kota Kinabalu to Kota Belud old main road and a popular stop over resting place for the travelers.

Now this place had become very quiet and almost forgotten by many people especially by the government. The little kampong is now having no development, no activities and there is lesser people who are staying here.

This was the complaints made to the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu and the Sabah DAP Vice Chairman Edward Ewol Mujie during their visit. Hiew said during the past when the people who wanted to go to KB must pass through this kampong and to stop over for a rest and drink.

Now the cars do not have to come here but will go directly on the new road which by passed this village. The villagers here had lost many business and they hardly see any more visitors.

MP Hiew said the villages here should not be forgotten by the government but instead the government or the local MP and assemblyman should come to bring in some development activities and community program here to boost the economy here.

At least, there should be some form of light agriculture industries to downstream the farm products. The other possible activity is to develop the tourism potential in the Kg Kelawat, and to bring in more tourists to hike in this beautiful environment and hills here.

There should be more home-stay or lodgings to be built here to house the tourists. A hiking and walking track should have been developed here to go through the hills and rivers here. If there are such facilities in the kampong, the people here will be the first to benefit.

The kampongs supported the idea of the KK MP Hiew and they welcome his visit. They all said the DAP should come back more often to visit them whenever they can find time.
