REPORT TO MACC ON RURAL PROJECTS

REPORT…. Hiew, Edward, and Allem Chieng photo at the MACC office after lodging the report.

THE KOTA KINABALU Member of Parliament, Hiew King Cheu had made an official report to the MACC branch office in the Federal Administration Building (Wisma Pentabiran Persekutuan) in KK on the 6th of December 2011 to request the anti-Corruption agency to probe into whether there is any mal-practices, abuse of power and alleged corrupt practices involved in the tendering of the 49 rural district contracts on the installation of power and water supply.

The awarded contract sums seem to be highly priced and it is not sure whether there are irregularities involved in the tender process. He was accompanied by the Sabah DAP Vice chairman Edward Ewol Mujie and Complaint bureau chief Allem Chieng to lodge the MACC report.

Basing on this, the KK MP Hiew said it is his duty as an MP to request the MACC to launch a thorough probe into these cases of tenders. He had submitted the various relevant documents to the MACC and had briefed the officers regarding the various procedure and proceedings on the tendering of government contracts. He said he is not pointing fingers at any quarters but it is of public interest and the money belongs to the people and the people have the rights to know whether their monies were not being abused, and wasted.

MP Hiew disclosed that we personally will visit the project sites to check on the progress of the rural development projects on power and water supply through out the state. He personally wants to see how these projects were carried since the award given on early 2011 and should complete by 2012.

It is important to ensure that these projects are implemented as per schedules and be completed on time to benefit the rural people especially those in the remote districts and kampongs. We can not accept that even though the contract had been awarded but no work had started since.

The KK MP Hiew had promised the MACC on his fullest corporation in assisting them in the investigation work. He can also provide some background information on the technicalities of the water and power supply projects with the help of his friends in the industries and even some specialized consultants in the field which includes the quantity surveyors and engineers.

The sooner we get to the bottom of these cases or any other cases will be better off for the people. Hiew also welcomes the people of Sabah to come forward with evident on abuses and corrupt practices, so that justice can be seek.
