DUO SPLASHED WITH ACID WHILE SLEEPING

A SIJIL Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) student and a friend were scalded, believed to have been splashed with acid, at Kampung Padang Merchang in Marang, Terengganu Sunday.

The incident occurred about 5.10am while Mohd Fadzil Hanafi Idrus, 18, who is waiting for his SPM result, and Shahurzaman Salim, 38, together with four others, were sleeping at a friend's house after watching a football match on television.

Mohd Fadzil suffered burns on the face, body and leg, while Shahurzaman, a fisherman, suffered burns on the face.

They have been admitted to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

One of the house tenant, Mohd Harmizi Hussin, 29, a factory bus driver, said he was on his way home from work when a friend contacted him and was shocked to see Fadzil writhing in pain.

"I sent both the victims to the Mercang Health Clinic which then referred them to HSNZ," he added.

Mohd Harmizi said Mohd Fadzil would normally come to the house, which he rented with a few other friends, to watch football matches on television.

"I believed whoever did it splashed the liquid through the open window and coincidentally, Fadzil and Shahurzaman, were sleeping on the bed near the window," he added.

Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa has confirmed receiving a report on the incident. (BERNAMA)
