NO MORE STINKY SMELL?

OPERATION.....The new oxidizer in operation.

THE KAPAYAN Ridge sewerage treatment plant finally has some repair and upgrading work being carried out to reduce the raw sewerage water from discharging directly into the main drain and emitting strong foul smell to the surrounding shops and houses.

The sewerage plant has been out of function for a long time and there were serious overflow with heavy foul smell emitting from here. The shops especially the eateries here are the one complaining the most. The overflowing raw sewerage water has created pollution and inconveniences to the people here.

The Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu again visited the treatment plant here and saw some workers are repairing the pumps, clearing the sludge and trash collected inside the tanks. They are installing four units of new oxidizers with stirrers to oxidize the raw sewerage water and to break it up. The old pumps and clarifiers were removed and replaced.

The contractor on site had run a new set of the oxidation units for the MP to witness how the new installation can assist to oxidize the raw sewerage water. Hiew said the new equipment is quite effective, and can reduce the foul smell. The smell from the sewerage treatment plant here will be largely reduced.

CLEAN-UP.....The sewerage treatment tank being cleaned up.

MP Hiew further asked the contractor to install a trash basket to screen out and to collect all the rubbish coming in from the main pipe. This rubbish can cause blockage to the system and even jam the pumps. It is better to stop them from getting into the treatment tanks.

It is also better to cover the open treatment tanks completely with fibred-reinforced concrete planks as the cover. This will further stop any foul smell from getting out from the treatment tanks. These concrete planks are not expensive to install, but can effectively contain the foul smell.

MP Hiew urges the JKR and DBKK to pay more attention to control the leakages of foul raw sewerage water from being leaked out to the public open drains. This can be observed in many places in the Kota Kinabalu City. We must work hard to get this long outstanding problem solved once for all.
