LDP HAS FORGET PAST STRUGGLES

SABAH Progressive Party (SAPP) said Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) had incredibly changed from disagreeing to sky praising the current UMNO led Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

SAPP Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah said at one time LDP were at loggerheads with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman who is also Sabah UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman over the Mazu statue (the Goddess of the Sea statue).

He said the disputes saw LDP President cum Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat resigned all his posts in the state government.

Pit Fah said LDP relationship with Musa hit rock bottom when a senior LDP leader had called on the Chief Minister to step down due to leadership weaknesses.

“However, it seems that the current LDP leadership had changed their stand now to supporting and defending Musa as well as UMNO,” he said replying to LDP Secretary General Teo Chee Kang’s statement that SAPP have never made UMNO presence an issue when SAPP still in BN’s fold.

He said the people must be wondering what made or led the current LDP leadership into praising UMNO and Musa when they were having differences before.

Pit Fah said Kah Kiat stand firm with his principle over the Mazu statue case while Su Phin also very vocal about the current UMNO leadership which he found weak.

“Since the current LDP leadership are having good relationships with Musa, so wouldn’t it be wise for them to make Musa agree with the construction of the Mazu statue at the site chosen by Kah Kiat,” he said.

Pit Fah said the Mazu statue were more than half completed when its construction was halted when the state government issued a stop work order in 2006.

He said many parts of the Mazu statue are now laying and getting rotten at Kudat where Chee Kang is the Tanjung Kapor assemblyman but the current LDP leadership has done nothing.

He added that the Mazu statue is very significant to Kudat as it could bring huge economic spin offs when thousands of tourists are visiting.

He also said that Kah Kiat predicted that the tourists would flock Kudat as the Mazu statue would be one of the tallest in the world.

“Don’t current LDP leadership want the construction of the Mazu statue be completed as was wished by its former President Kah Kiat,” Pit Fah asked adding Chee Kang and the other LDP current leadership must make a stand on the Mazu statue.

Pit Fah went on saying that the senior LDP leader’s negative comments against Musa and UMNO had led many UMNO leaders in Sabah including Puteri UMNO to call on LDP to leave BN.

He said SAPP made UMNO presence an issue now because of the mistakes the current Sabah UMNO leader had made, among others, are the many land grabs, which saw people especially those residing at the interiors were chased out of their respective villages despite having Native Customary Rights (NCR).

He said the decision of the current UMNO led Sabah Government to monopolise sand business statewide is also one of the reasons behind SAPP comments against UMNO.

Pit Fah said the difference between current UMNO leadership with the UMNO leadership while SAPP still in BN fold between 1994 and 2008 were too many to mention.

According to Pit Fah said Chee Kang and the current LDP leadership kept silent whenever UMNO made negative comments against them. He said the most daring was the one made by Kudat UMNO Treasurer Harun Bidin who had said that LDP is hiding behind UMNO skirt.

Pit Fah said that Harun had stated that LDP depends on UMNO supports to win Tanjung Kapor seat.

He said Chee Kang has never challenged Harun’s statement, which was made in October 2011 that LDP would never win Tanjung Kapor seat without UMNO’s support.

Pit Fah called on Chee Kang and the current LDP leaders not to fight for personal agenda and jeopardise the future of the Sabah people.

  15. Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) information chief Chong Pit Fah cannot change the historical fact that his party president Datuk Yong Teck Lee was once the Chief Minister of Sabah under the rotation system, thus SAPP did play a major role in the State Barisan Nasional, yet they had never made the presence of Umno in Sabah an issue.

  16. “Why only say it when they are outside? Will they reverse their stand again if they are back to BN?” Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) secretary general Teo Chee Kang asked in a statement yesterday.

  17. Chong claimed on Friday that LDP president Datuk Liew Vui Keong was sidekicking Umno, PBS and other Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders by saying PBS downfall and BN rise to power in 1994 was due to frogging.

  18. He said Liew looked down on the current leaders of Umno, PBS and Sabah BN, but using SAPP and its president, Yong, as a diversionary tactic.

  19. “This is called ‘pointing at the mulberry tree but scolding the locust tree’, one of the ‘Chinese 36 strategies’ being used by Liew because he is scared of being accused of sabotaging BN,” he said.

  20. Teo said Chong’s remarks were clearly aiming at fanning up fire and create disharmony between LDP and Umno as well as PBS.

By saying that Liew used the diversionary tactic of ‘pointing at the mulberry but scolding the locust, Chong was in fact ‘creating something from nothing’, which is coincidentally one of the 36 strategies.

With the hope of igniting the sparks among the BN component parties, Teo said Chong probably thought that he could then ‘watch the fires burning across the river’ and get Yong out from his misstatement like ‘sloughing off the circada’s shell’, in application of another two of the 36 strategies.

  21. “Unfortunately, Chong still failed to answer the simple question: why only say so when they are outside BN?” he said
