MALFUNCTIONED AIR PUMPS IN PETROL STATIONS

THE BROKEN down tyre air pumps in many of the petrol service stations has become an issue as far as the car owners are concerned. They feel that the air pumps are an essential part of the service and formed an integral part of the service of the petrol service station.

It is a necessity to provide the air pump service for the use of the drivers. In many cases, the nearest available air pump one can find when you have a flat tyre is to go to the nearest service station. Many people when they are in urgent situation couldn’t find the air, when they arrived at the service station.

The air pump is either malfunctioned, or simply put with a big sign 'Rosak'! Some operators had stopped supplying air now to motorist. In many service stations, the air pump had been permanently removed.

Many car drivers feel that it is part of the service that the station must provide, and it is a good will to supply air to motorists. The service is very important to help those who need to pump up their tyres quickly when they are doing refuelling to their cars, and usually they don’t have time to go to other tyre shop to pump up their tyres. It will be very troublesome and inconvenient especially when one is rushing for time.

The Kota Kinabalu Member Of Parliament Hiew King Cheu in his Face Book received a complaint from Allen, that the matter must be brought up to the attention of the service station operators and the petroleum companies who own the petrol station to ensure that the air pumps are functioning properly.

The KK MP said he himself has faced similar difficult situation of couldn’t locate an air pump in the service stations when the car tyre is flat and going down very fast in air pressure. He said the man finds it difficult, what about the ladies?

The MP further urges the operators to ensure the air pumps that they installed are to be in good working conditions with correct controllable air pressure, good feeder air hose and inlet valve to the tyres. The over charged air pressure can be highly dangerous and accidents can occur due to over pumped tyres.

It is advisable for the authorities and the petroleum companies to ensure that this is implemented for the benefits and needs of the motorists and people. Anyway, we are paying for very expensive petroleum products and fuels, right? We are not asking too much because Petronas, Esso, and Shell are making big money and huge profits, when compared to the little more service.
