MENGGATAL VICTIM FIRE NEEDED HELP

VICTIM.... Edward and Stephen together with victim family in front of the burnt house.

THE FIRE victims of a house in Menggatal called in the Sabah DAP Inanam service centre for assistance. The fire occurred few days ago and the whole house was burnt down to ashes together with their belongings and their only car.

The house owner Ahmat Bin Gukan was accompanied his niece Ms Lee Khen Fon to approach the Local Government and Housing Bureau Chief of Sabah DAP Edward Ewol Mujie and his assistant Stephen Yarman to present their case of hardship and difficulties encounter by them after the fire which had burnt away practically every thing the family own.

Ahmat lived in the house with his sick wife (age 61) and a daughter, and luckily when the fire started, the wife was carried out of the house. Nothing can be saved due to the fast spread of the fire. Now the three of them have to put up in the niece’s house not far away.

They have been staying here for a long time and there is no way to go to. The worst is that they have no money to rebuild the house because Ahmat is just a poor bus driver, and his young daughter who has just started work recently cannot earn enough to feed herself. Their condition is classified as very poor.

Edward comforted them and said that they cannot even afford to buy fire insurance, and there is no saving, it will be very difficult for them to rebuild the house. He advised them to seek help from the Welfare department first and see whether there is any help can be granted.

In the mean time if any kind hearted person who wish to help by contributing some financial assistance to the poor family may help by way of putting in some charity money into the bank account of his niece Lee Khen Fon, Maybank Account No. 110078112681, or you can contact Edward at 019 8817575, or call in the Inanam service centre.

Edward said there are many cases of fire happening now and then, and it is better for the house owner to check regularly on the switch gear and wiring. The SESB must also set up an inspection unit to go round to check on the wiring and electrical installation to alert and advice the owners and operators of the building, house, factory and shop owners on their faulty and damaged electrical installation. All these must be rectified before they caused bigger problems like fires, short circuits or people got electrocuted.
