REMOVE THE MIDDLE MAN IN HOSPITALS

DAP Sabah is shocked to find out that there is such a federal law to stop Hospitals from purchasing drugs and medicines directly from the drug distributors.

Junz Wong, DAP Sabah state assistant secretary, said he was shocked when told by professionals that Hospitals MUST purchase drugs through the licensed tender agent companies (middleman) and these middleman will fax over the quotations to drug distributors for drugs delivery.

When asked about what do these middle man tender agents do to justify their commission, they do absolutely nothing except for some simple filings and faxing over quotations. The rest of the works will be done by either hospitals themselves or the drug distributors.

These tender agents will then get their commission between a range of 4 % - 10% depending what kind of drugs and the volume of purchase.

Junz Wong condemned such middleman system as inappropriate and ineffective. Every year, Ministry of Health has limited allocation of fund for every states across whole Malaysia. With the already considerably limited fund, hospitals have to pay 4% to 10% commission to these middle man which only has enriched the cronies in the expenses of rakyat interests.

Thus it is common to come across news about some states encountering problems of shortage of medicines due to insufficient funds during last quarter of the year, simply because 5% -10% of the allocated fund has gone into the cronies pockets for absolutely zero contribution. If middle man system is eliminated, then hospitals will have enough fund to cope with shortage of medicines.

Junz Wong who is also DAPSY KK Assistant Youth Chief demanded Ministry of Health to come clean and justify the establishment of such irresponsible policy and regulations? DAP Sabah wanted Health Minister Dato Seri Liow Tiong Lai to explain this to the people of Malaysia.

DAP Sabah promised that when Pakatan Rakyat takes over Putrajaya, We will remove the middle man via tender agent system and allow Hospitals to do procurement directly from the drug distributors.

  1. MOH needs to come forward and explain this matter. The hospitals too must give their opinion on the cause and effect of middleman system to them and the patients.
