A FRESHMAN at Nanjing Medical University has donated her body to the school for medical research. Li Juan was a nursing major at the university in Nanjing, China.

The 21-year-old student was diagnosed with melanoma in December after feeling unwell in her throat. She died on Feb 28, Nanjing Daily reported.

Li Juan was from a poor family where her mother was unable to work after brain surgery. Her father and younger brother had to support the whole family.

The university organised a charity donation of more than 38,700 yuan (RM18,454) for Li after her illness was diagnosed.

Li Juan requested in her last days for her body to be donated to the school for melanoma research.
