56 PINTS OF BLOOD TO SAVE MOTHER

Medics saved the life of pregnant Sara Palmer and her unborn daughter after giving her an incredible 56 PINTS of blood. So much was needed that police helped to ferry in extra supplies.

An astonished spokesman for the NHS Blood and Transplant Service said: “The amount Sara received is more than we collect at a whole donor session in some areas.”

Sara, 32, was rushed to Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan, North Wales, with internal bleeding caused by a tumour on her liver.

Medics battled for eight hours to save her and delivered daughter Bella by caesarean.

The proud mum said: “Everyone was amazing.” She and her husband Joe, of Ruthin, North Wales, have now set up a Facebook site called Blood4Bella — to replenish the stock used for her.

Builder Joe, 31, said: “We hope our story inspires people to give someone else the opportunity to live.” (thesun.co.uk)
