MAN GETS 14 YEARS JAIL, WHIPPING FOR RAPE

A MALAYSIAN MAN was sentenced to 14 years' jail and eight strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court in Shah Alam Tuesday for raping a Thai woman and stealing the victim's car and valuables last year.

G.Thanaraj pleaded guilty to raping the 42-year-old woman, who is a mother of four, in her Perodua Viva car parked behind Serendah Golf Club, Hulu Selangor, between 6am to 7am on Nov 7.

For that, he was sentenced to 14 years' jail and five strokes of the rotan under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

Judge Mohammed Mokhzani Mokhtar also sentenced Thanaraj to nine years' jail and three strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty, with another man, Mohd

Suhairi Mohd Sani, 24, to stealing the victim's car, her international passport, cash of RM350, a white gold necklace, three gold rings and a mobile phone, worth RM35,000.

They committed the offence on the same day, at the same time and place and was charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code for theft.

Mohammed Mokhzani ordered the sentences to run concurrently from the day of his arrest on Nov 12.

The court also sentenced Mohd Suhairi 10 years' jail after he pleaded guilty to abetting Thanaraj to rape the woman.

Prior to this, Mohd Suhairi had been sentenced to nine years' jail and five strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to the theft charge. (Bernama)
