THE POP world is a cruel
master. Even on a 53-year-old mother of four who just happens to be the Queen
of Pop. Yes, you know it by now: the Internet has been buzzing with news and
videos of Madonna flipping her nipple during her MDNA concert in Istanbul.
Shocking? Hardly. It’s not
like we haven't seen her breasts before. In 1992, she released the book Sex in
which she was photographed completely naked. But what's shocking and dismaying
for her fans, and perhaps her own kids, is that she's still at it after all
these years. Why, Madonna, why?
Commentators and critics
around the world have greeted her stunt with more sighs of frustration than
raves of wonder. It’s almost a unanimous opinion that her act of desperation is
the only way the Material Girl can be seen as sexy and edgy in a world
dominated by 20something pop tarts like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, all
of whom were influenced by Madonna when she was in her 20s.
In an age of wardrobe
malfunctions, naked photos on Facebook , slippery nipples (we're particularly
fond of the cocktail) and sex videos (Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, great
company all), taking your clothes off seems to be the go-to option for most
young female stars. Surely there are better ways to earn your reputation as a
credible artiste? But here are three types of naked ladies:
1. The Rebel
One name—Rihanna, who's
never too shy to whip her kit off on and off the camera. She's done it again
for a giant billboard plastered in the middle of New York City's Times Square,
to promote her new perfume Rebelle. In the advertisement, the Barbados babe
sizzles in the buff with only her hands to protect her... well, what's left of
her modesty. "My new fragrance is about taking control but still being a
lady. There’s a feminine, romantic element to the fragrance—but there's also a
defiant quality," says the 24-year-old.
2. I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A
Woman
Justin Timberlake brought
sexy back, but his fiancée Jessica Biel put sexy there in the first place when
she posed topless for Gear magazine in 2000, three months shy of her turning
18. She's now admitted to shedding her clothes to shed her squeaky-clean,
family-friendly 7th Heaven image. Another former TV sweetheart who couldn't wait
to grow up was 18-year-old Taylor Momsen, who went from a doe-eyed teenager in
Gossip Girl to a scantily clad, smoky-eyed, foul-mouthed teenager in 2010 by
doing a Madonna.

Anne Hathaway in Brokeback Mountain and Love And Other Drugs. Halle Berry in
Monster's Ball. Kate Winslet in Titanic. 'Nuff said. The latest to join these strip-for-art
thespians is 22-year-old Twilight darling Kristen Stewart, who gets topless and
gets into a threesome for On The Road.
