THE KOTA Kinabalu car
parking fees collection by the DBKK through its investment arm DBKK Holding Sdn
Bhd since the take over of the direct management of the KK car park starting
from 1st of May this year has collected a staggering amount of RM 260,640 for
the month of May and June 2012.
The money collected during
the past years by the two previous DBKK contractors on the KK car parks was not
made known and the statements of account were not published. This money is
basically the contribution from the public for the maintenance and upkeep of
the Kota Kinabalu City.
Very unfortunately, the two
previous contractors who had collected a vast sum of money but the amount was
not made known, and the DBKK/MPKK did not disclose any details on the actual
amount collected and the amount paid to DBKK on the sharing of the collection.
The Sabah DAP Vice chairman
Edward Ewol Mujie strongly feels that the city hall should disclose the account
on the KK car parking fees collection since the beginning of handing over to
the contractors. The information is vital to show the transparency in the
matter. He further queries that whether DBKK had actually received any sharing
of the collected money. He said that it is unfair for the money to be kept in
the pocket of the contractor.
It is righteous for the DBKK
to disclose the total monthly collection for the last two months and this
indicted that large sum of money is actually being contributed by the KK car
park user. This also proves that the people who refused to pay to the private
contractors previously, their action is justified.
Edward said that he
encourages the DBKK to publicly make known their monthly collection regularly.
At the same time DBKK should claim the amount due by their previous contractor.
He hopes the money contributed by the KK folks will be put into good use to
upgrade the various facilities in the KK City, for example the public toilets,
cleanliness, pedestrian walkways, beautification work and street lights. (DAP
