POTHOLES WAWASAN TERMINAL

KOTA KINABALU bus terminal is in a disgraceful condition. Special assistant to MP of Kota Kinabalu, Andrew Lee was invited to take a closer look at the condition at the terminal. Several bus operators who were fed up and furious over this matter decided to turn to Sabah DAP for assistance.

Andrew was made to understand by the bus operators that the road condition at the terminal is getting worse and the potholes are getting bigger and bigger each day. Bus operators have no choice at times but to go over these potholes and it damages the bus. To make things worse when rain falls, rain water accumulates, overflows and it gets real messy.

The complainants just don't understand why can't the relevant authorities just do something about it even it is temporary. It's so obvious and relevant authorities are just ignoring it. Complaints after complaints which were forwarded to DBKK and bus drivers association and still nothing is being done.

Andrew was made to understand that the current KK bus terminal will be developed and only drop off points will be provided to bus operators. The question now is when will the development take place? Three months’ time or in a years’ time? it’s just matter of time.

The relevant authorities are urged to fill up the potholes with stones in order to prevent it from happening again even if it is just temporary. The bus operators are facing damages going over this pothole over and over. It’s hard to avoid it when the terminal gets jam up.

During Andrew site inspection, he detected :

1. Twelve giant potholes as large as 10ft wide and 1 1/2ft deep.
2. No proper road system for buses taxis.
3. Drainage system is long overdue and expired. Drains are clogged up with rubbish and vegetation.
4. Improper wash rooms.
5. Unhealthy environment due to dust from uncollected derbies.
6. Road leading to the entrance of the bus terminal is half way tarred and the surrounding area is graveled.

Andrew hope's that this report will catch the attention of the relevant authorities and to begin immediately with repair and upgrading works at the KK bus terminal. It's a shame to see such conditions as KK city turns 12.

This are the basics which were ignored or over looked by the relevant authorities. Sabah DAP urges the relevant bodies to ensure safety, convenience, comfort, cleanliness and good healthy environment for the public and all transport operators. Relevant authorities should be more sensitive and not turn a blind eye towards the bus operators. (DAP Media)
