SHOPPING MALL AUXILIARY POLICE TO GET POWER OF ARREST

KUALA LUMPUR : Auxiliary police at shopping malls will be given the authority to arrest criminals before handing the culprits over to the police for further action.

Federal Police Director of Management Datuk Mortadza Nazarene said though they were given such power, they were not allowed to conduct interrogations or take violent action.

“The presence of the auxiliary police is one of the efforts to prevent crimes and reduce criminal cases at shopping malls,” he told reporters after closing a training programme for 97 trainees at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today.

Mortadza said of the 97 trainees, 22 were auxiliary policemen who had been trained for nine weeks at Pulapol since June 10.

The training included marching, physical exercise, martial arts, shooting, law course, management and patrolling to increase their skills and knowledge before sending them back to their respective agencies, he said. (Bernama)
