DURING his two-day visit to Sabah the Prime Minister officiated the opening of the Pagansakan Bridge and the ground breaking ceremony for the Native Court Training Centre at the same event.

Costing RM30 million to build the training institute will train those who will preside as judges in the 35 native courts in Sabah. It will also train village chiefs as well as familiarize state leaders with native adats and affairs in order to make the natives court system more relevant.

In his speech, Najib suggested a comprehensive research to be undertaken to enhance the native court system. This is to ensure that the native court system will not be seen as merely a village system, he said.

“I ask that Tan Sri Richard Malanjun and other law experts offer their opinions and suggestions on how we can develop the natives court system so that it remains relevant in the future,” Najib said. (Insight Sabah)
