PARKING FEES CUT BY 30%

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has agreed to lower parking charges in the city by 30 per cent. And this will take effect very soon.

Disclosing this after chairing the State Cabinet meeting here yesterday, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said the purpose of cutting the parking charges was to reduce the burden of the people, especially city dwellers.

The old rates for type A parking lot are RM31.25, type B (RM11.85), type C (RM5.85) and type C1 (RM4.75). Asked if the Cabinet planned to also discuss reduction of charges for private parking, he said the matter would not be discussed yet.

City Hall took back the management of parking lots in the city from Syarikat Wawasan Ikhtisas Sdn Bhd effective May 1 this year.

Prior to this, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai who is also the Api Api Assemblyman has called for the reduction in parking charges in the city.

Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir had also been quoted as saying that City Hall needed to discuss the matter before a decision could be made.

Meanwhile, Musa said the inaugural “Rimbunan Kasih” programme in Sabah would be held in Kampung Saga Saga in Membakut.

He said this was a rural development plan to provide comfortable housing equipped with facilities.

“The local residents will also be involved in agriculture,” the Chief Minister said, adding that a 30-acre plot of land owned by Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB) would be allocated to implement the programme.(NST)
