UNDER DAP, PENANG ONLY FOR THE RICH

By : HAFIDZ BAHAROM

KUALA LUMPUR : Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek took potshots at the DAP-led Penang government for making the island state exclusively for the rich.

The MCA president said Penang’s revenue was due to the non-stop selling of land which has driven up the price of property, leaving more than 100,000 middle income households vying for only 10,000 affordable houses the state plans to develop in the next three years.

“Penang island is slowly and certainly becoming an island only for the rich,” he said in his presidential address when opening the party’s annual general meeting here.

But Chua said Penang’s success was false, adding the state recorded a negative GDP growth of 1.8 per cent compared to the national 5.4 per cent between 2008 to 2010.

“DAP created a perception that they have reduced the state’s debt by RM600 million.

“In actual fact, what they did was to transfer its debt to the Federal government via the water restriction exercise. Shame on you,” Chua said.

He also said that MCA, with its war cry Battle Without Fear was ready and united to take on DAP in the coming general election.
