DPM'S QUICK WALKABOUT IN KUALA PENYU

DEPUTY Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made a brief tour of Kuala Penyu on his recent two-day visit to Sabah, and was warmly welcomed when he arrived at Kuala Penyu on Wednesday.

Accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, the entourage  made a stopover at the town-market to exchange greetings with the local hawkers and traders as well as a large crowd who gathered to catch a glimpse of him and the Chief Minister.

The visitors then headed to the jetty by the market where Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin officially launched the construction of a new Ko-Nelayan fishery complex for Kuala Penyu.

Estimated to cost RM7.2 million, the complex will be a boon to the local fishing community when it is completed in September 2013. The complex will provide ice, cold storage facilities as well as fuel for the fishermen, thus enabling them to go out further to sea for better catch and so more income.

While at Kuala Penyu, the two leaders had a chance to meet with the head of the Kadayan Community, Wahid Kapal along with 40 representatives representing Brunei, Bisaya, Kadayan and Tatana ethnic groups who expressed great appreciation for Tan Sri Muhyiddin's visit to the disrict. They later joined Muhyiddin and Musa for breakfast at Anjung Sitompok, here.

Later, at a BN rally at the town padang Muhyiddin said to the gathering, "A responsible government will only promise what it can deliver, and the current leadership has managed to power homes with electricity, supplied water, and built roads to connect Kuala Penyu with nearby towns and villages."

In his short visit to Kuala Penyu the Deputy Prime Minister also took time to commission a RM49 million new pipewater connection from Limbawang to Kayul. Muhyiddin said he noticed signs of rapid development in Kuala Penyu since his last visit in 1994, and assured the people that he would support more infrastructure projects in the district to promote higher economic growth. He cited the completion of the new Sitompok bridge, and the numerous road construction projects as proof of BN's track record in bringing development. 

The UMNO Beaufort Chairman Isnin Aliasneh, member of the State Assembly for Kuala Penyu, Datuk John Teo Mau Sing, State Assembly Speaker Salleh Tun Said, State Assemblyperson for Klias, Datin Azizah Bte Mohd Dun, and Secretary of State, Sukarti Wakiman were among the dignitaries who attended the rally at the town padang.
