SEMPORNA: Umno Vice-President, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal retained the Semporna parliamentary seat for the fifth time with a 20,905 majority.
The victory was made sweeter when the Barisan Nasional also won the state seats of
N52 Sulabayan through Datuk Jaujan Sambakong (5,219 majority), N53 Senallang (Datuk Nasir Tun Sakaran 5,909 majority) and N54 Bugaya (Datuk Ramlee Marahaban 3,525 majority).
“I am thankful for the victory and this proves that BN is the still choice of the people to be their government which they have the confidence to bring changes to them,” he said at a press conference after the announcement of the results at the community hall here last night.
According to Shafie, the victory in the rural areas which are like a “fixed deposit” to the BN, was good sign that the people had made the right choice.
“I’m confident that the efforts to develop the rural areas would be appreciated by the people and would be continued,” he said.
Commenting on the bigger majority obtained by BN in Sulabayan with 5,129 votes compared to 2,037 in the 12th General Election, Jaujan said this proved the voters in the islanders were worried about their safety.
“The people in the islands have given strong support to the BN government and they proved this by appreciating the BN leadership,” he said.
Ramlee and Nasir were also happy with their wins and vowed to continue to work hard to bring development to their constituencies. (BP)
