SADAN HUSSIN SEMAKIN MENJADI-JADI

Saudara Pengarang,

SEKARANG baru lepas PRU 13.

Salam Hormat,

MOHAMAD ARRIFIN

  1. Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor on Saturday denied that the State Government will only provide development in areas won by the Barisan Nasional (BN).

  2. He described the recent statement by a local estate valuer that the opposition-held parliamentary seat of Kota Kinabalu and the three state seats within the constituency are expected to see less development in years to come as nonsense.

"Kota Kinabalu is the State Capital and its residents also pay taxes, and whether the opposition won or we (Barisan Nasional) won, we still have to look after it," he said.

  3. Lido Avenue, the maiden project for a locally-incorporated property development company, Mega City Development Sdn Bhd, comprises 15 units of shops or office lots and 228 residential units housed in a 26-storey twin tower block.

In this respect, Hajiji said the launch of yet another high-end residential development was testimony that the economy was good and that the private sector, including housing developers, have confidence in the State Government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. "The implication can only be positive.

  4. If the economy is not good or if the private sector has no confidence in the Government, we won't be seeing one housing project after another being launched over the last few years, and I am sure even more in the years to come," he said.

  5. For the past three years, he said, about 2,113 units of landed properties such as terrace houses and 2,126 units of strata-titled properties such as apartments had been approved or launched.

  6. On the question of how wage earners in and around the State Capital are going to own houses with terrace houses and high-end apartments costing half-a-million ringgit and above, Hajiji assured that the BN government is a responsible and caring government.

"We know what we are doing but we don't blow our own trumpet, unlike some people.

First of all, let me point out that Malaysia practices a free enterprise system and that prices are determined by the market. But that doesn't mean we do not care," he said.

  7. In this respect, he said some 15,000 units of affordable houses would be built over the next few years through the collective efforts of the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association, the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority and Syarikat Perumahan Negara.

  8. Any launch of a new housing project is a reflection of the private sector's confidence in the Government and the economy and our job is not to deter them but to help them.
