FOUL SMELL AT MESRA APARTMENT

SMELL….Piles of thick mud and rubbish in the storm drain emitting bad smell

THE RESIDENTS of the Mesra Apartment near Taman Mesra in Jalan Penampang complained to the Sabah DAP concerning the constant foul smell emitted from the black water and piles of mud settled in the storm which is believed to be under the care of the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID). They said they have to keep their windows shut the whole day long or else they cannot have even eat when the foul smell gets to heavy.

Edward Ewol Mujie, the Sabah DAP vice chairman had visited the location and found the foul smell from the drain is really unbearable and it is affecting the whole housing estate and including the surrounding other housing estates. The Bit Nam Tong Kindergarten on the other side of the drain is also badly affected by the smell.

The long stretch of the big storm drain had never been cleared of the mud accumulated in it and the thich mud emitted strong smell when it is exposed under the hot sun. The wind sends the foul smell into the houses and the apartment and it smells like shit.

The residents here is under heavy stress and affected by the smell, they asked why the DID had never to come to clear the drain. They told Edward that the storm drains in Singapore are so clean that one can walk inside the drain or ride a bicycle. Here the black water is always stagnant and not flowing.

Edward reminds the DID to immediately to come to clear the mud and rubbish out from the drain. He said although the Ministers had announced the big plans to clear the drain but we are sure there will not be any immediate action.

If they want to clear the drains they could have cleared long time ago and not waited the whole area is flooded over and the people suffered deeply. The rainy season is here now and the area is expected to flood again.

The people in Lido, Luyang and Penampang road will suffer further while the BN government is talking about their big plans to clean the drains and fix pump houses. What a shame to see such ineffective and slack government who put the people in deep water and subjected to very bad smell.
