Hiew and resident checking on the collapsed hill slope in Luyang.
by: Hiew King Cheu
The recent serious land slide in Luyang Phase 1 at the Lorong Senduduk 1 had affected a few houses, and this has become very critical. The resident worried about further land slide when hit by heavy downpour of rain again. If that happens, they might have to vacate their houses and move out for safety reason.
The residents approached the MCA Luyang Assemblyman Hiew King Cheu to assist in the matter, and to seek help from the DBKK to build a retaining wall to stabilize the collapsing hill slope. Hiew inspected the situation and he confirmed that the hill slope is in need of immediate action to protect it from further sliding down. A retaining wall is needed, and he hopes the DBKK will move in soonest possible to build the retaining wall and to reinstate the slope.
On the other hand, he said the SESB power line supplying electricity to the houses has to be replaced or relocated to a better position. Any further land slide would cause a power cut off, and causes danger to the residents here. The missing street lights on the poles here are also needed to be reinstalled.
Hiew advices all house owners living on or near the hill slope must ensure that the water from the houses are not flowing down the hill side freely. When the hill slope becomes wet and socked with excessive water, it will become slippery and heavy. When it becomes saturated with water, it will slide downwards. Every time when there is hill slope collapsed or there is a land slide, these will cost the government or the owners a great deal of money to repair or make good. Therefore, it is advisable to ensure there is no water flowing down on the hill slope, and we must check the slope regularly, especially during rainy season.
