CAMERON'S EX-GIRLFRIEND IS NOW A NUN

AN EX-GIRLFRIEND of Prime Minister David Cameron has become a nun after a battle with drink and drugs, a new film has revealed. Laura Adshead, now 44, met the future PM when they studied at Oxford University together.

The pair dated between spring 1990 and summer 1991 while both working at Conservative Party HQ.

Laura left politics after their split, heading to New York to work as an advertising executive for top firm Ogilvy & Mather.

And while she threw herself into the social scene, partying with royalty and billionaires, she eventually found herself hooked on drink and drugs.

Speaking in a documentary about her convent home, God Is The Bigger Elvis, she explained: "I feel like I tried most things in life that are supposed to make you happy.

"That journey took me down into alcoholism and drug addiction."

But in 2008 she decided to turn her back on her old ways, and live a life of worship on a 400-acre farm in Connecticut, US.

She explained: "I looked at this place and saw women who had what I wanted. You make a decision here to surrender your life to God.

"This is the only place I could see myself being — because this is where it’s at.

Laura, who is now known as Sister John Mary, took her vows four years ago, and is currently working her way through an apprenticeship known as a "formation".

This can last for as long as five and a half years, after which she will take the title of "Mother".

And the former socialite has thrown herself into her new life — in which she must perform duties like mopping the chapel floors, and even tending to a herd of dairy cows, the Daily Mail has reported.

But she explains: "A monastic life, this is where the struggle is. There’s no way out. You don’t get to leave and go to a movie.

"You don’t get distraction from all the human emotions. It’s like this hothouse where things get worked out." (thesun.co.uk)
