PNK DENIES ABUSE OF 200,000 LITRES DIESEL

SANDAKAN: The chairman of the Beluran Area Fishermen’s Association (PNK), Jaini Ating has denied a report by an opposition portal claiming there was misappropriation in the distribution of 200,000 litres of subsidised diesel by the association to fishermen each month.

He said the management of the Beluran PNK had complete record on the sale and distribution of the fuel.

He said before the purchase of the fuel was made, the fishermen concerned must undergo three procedures.

He said the fishermen must have a boat and fishing licence to enable them to make purchase bookings to the Customs Department for the purpose of tax exemption.

Jaini said the approval would be forwarded to the Ko-Nelayan (fishermen’s cooperative) while the third procedure was that the smart card possessed by the fishermen must be through the declaration by the Malaysian Fisheries Development  Authority (LKIM) before being allowed to make purchases at the depot permitted.

“This means that the purchase of subsidised fuel is not made at random. Only fishermen who qualify for the three procedures are allowed,” he said in a statement here yesterday. (Bernama)
