POSITION OF OPPOSITION LEADER UNDECIDED

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Legislative Assembly has not decided on the position of Klias state assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin as opposition head in the current meeting.

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Datuk Johnny Mositun said it had yet to receive any official letter on the appointment of the opposition head.

“For the information of members of the assembly, the house has not received any official letter on who had been selected by the opposition as head.

“As such, there is no resolution that the member for Klias is the head…we do not consider him as the (opposition) head,” he said during the session on the motion of thanks to the policy speech of the Yang DiPertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at the State Legislative Assembly, here today.

Earlier, Lajim enquired from the Deputy Speaker on his (Lajim’s) appointment as opposition head and that he was ready to become state opposition chief in the assembly as proposed by his party.

“The Deputy Speaker should propose and decide now and when he would announce the decision made by the opposition,” said Lajim.

Christina Liew (PKR-Api Api) then stood up to say that Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary, Dr Roland Chia had sent an official letter to assembly secretary Datuk Bernard Joseph Dalinting last week on the decision taken by conventional selection.

Earlier, it was reported that Chia had said Lajim had won an internal selection by opposition members.

In this regard, Sabah Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said was quoted as saying the appointment of the opposition head in Sabah assembly was not stipulated in the constitution and state assembly standing orders as the opposition was selected based on convention.
