TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF KK BUS TERMINAL

TERMINAL .....A bird's eye view of the Wawasan bus terminal in Kota Kinabalu.

KOTA KINABALU: The Wawasan bus terminal in the city will be temporarily relocated from July 5 to enable the contractor, Golden Wave Sdn Bhd (Golden Wave), to enter the site to start construction works on the bus terminal and its supporting facilities.

KK Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the temporary bus routes and routing plans have been distributed to all the bus operators.

Under the new arrangement the buses are only allowed to drop and pick up passengers at the bus stops in the City. They are not supposed to park or wait for passengers at any of the bus stops.

Buses plying the Southern and Eastern zone routes will use bus stops  located along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens in front of Marina Court.

The second bus stop , located along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in front of Hotel Shangrila, will serve the Northern zone buses.

Madingkir said the decision was made after a series of meetings of the Working Committee that he chaired, involving the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB), Traffic Division of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Road Transport Department (RTD), the police Traffic Division, PUSPAKOM and Road Transport Department.

He said due care was taken to ensure that all parties involved in the relocation, the bus opertors, the general public especially bus commuters would not suffer undue inconvenience and financial loss because of the closure of the Wawasan Bus Terminal.

On the initial plan to relocate the bus operators from the Wawasan bus terminal to the three proposed permanent terminals – the Northern Bus Terminal, Eastern Bus Terminal and Southern Bus Terminal - he said City Hall is currently not able to cary out the plan as these  terminals have yet to be built.

He appealed to the bus operators and the public to be patient and give the relocation measures a chance to work. However he indicated  that some enforcement actions may be taken should there be massive traffic jams in the city. (Insight Sabah)

  1. RM8m is currently under construction adjacent to the existing bus terminal near Wawasan Plaza. Funded by the Federal Government under the Public Transportation Fund.

  2. Sealing the existing bus terminal with high quality asphalt with costing RM2m, would solve the problems of recurring potholes and dust in the terminal. The Central Terminal would connect to the South and North Terminals at Kapayan and Inanam.
