SABAH Progressive Party (SAPP) has called on the Ministry of Health to walk the talk to ensure that the construction of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) new tower block will be completed on schedule this time.
Urging this was SAPP Information Chief Chong Pit Fah, in response to the announcement by Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin on Monday, that the construction of the QEH new tower block can be completed within 18 months from now.
Chong said both Rosnah and her boss, Datuk Dr Liow Tiong Lai must walk the talk this time and not merely providing another ‘lip service’ like in the past.
On Monday, Rosnah was quoted for saying the demolition of the old QEH block is expected to be completed within eight months and the construction of the new building another 10 months.
“We have heard similar statements before including from the Minister of Health himself besides his senior officers. Even the purchase and the renovation of the SMC building for the QEH II had also been delayed followed by many “statements of consolation” from the Ministry and Liow himself, which were merely excuses to cover up their incompetence in dealing with the healthcare crisis in the State,” said Chong in a statement issued here today.
He lamented that the repeated issuance of the ‘lip services’ by the Ministry had deprived the people of Kota Kinabalu a general hospital for close to 700 days now. The QEH tower block was decanted in October 2008 after it was declared unsafe by the relevant authorities.
“What the people of Sabah, particularly those living in the State Capital want is action and not just one after another lip service,” he stressed.
