The converted “Green” parking lots in Foh Sang shop

by : Hiew King Cheu

The Type “B” (Green) long term parking lots has been increased in numbers in the Kota Kinabalu City, and this means the car users can now enjoy more cheaper parking in the city. Some of the previously Type “A” (Yellow) short term parking lots have been converted into Type “B” (green), especially in Foh Sang, Luyang, as Yb Hiew told to

This move by the DBKK has no doubt brought good news to the car park users. They have to pay only RM0.55 parking fee an hour on the green compared to RM 1.10 per hour on the yellow parking lot. The MCA Luyang Assemblyman Hiew King Cheu welcomes the move and commented that the move by DBKK to convert more Yellow parking lots to Green parking lots has indeed helped to lower the parking expenditure for many people. More people will now enjoy cheaper parking in the city.

On the other hand, the car park users also requested YB Hiew to forward to the DBKK on the issue that the monthly parking tickets are not enough for those who need to buy it, and this is always sold out very fast due to the high demand.  It is cheaper to use this monthly ticket to park on the green parking lots.

Hiew had mentioned this to the DBKK, and DBKK said they will look into this matter. Except that they cannot promise on how many monthly tickets they can increase. Any how, this is also a move to discourage long hours parking or whole day parking occupying a parking lot by the car owners in the green parking lot because other people should be given a chance to use the parking lot.  Hiew suggested that there should be notice boards erected to notify that some green parking lots are not for use by the monthly parking ticket holders.

Hiew has been informed by the public that some people are beginning to leave their cars at home and choose to share cars with others, or go by bus to get to their work place. It is easier to find parking lots available in the city now, and especially in the busy business centers.
