KG. TAMBISAN, KOTA MARUDU LAND-GRAB

PROTEST….. The group of Kampong Tambisan dwellers staging their protest.

By: PKR MEDIA

THE PKR Kota Marudu Chief, Anthony Mandiau was met by a group of kampong dwellers from Kg. Tambisan, Kota Marudu who claimed that their kampong land had been taken away by certain company. They had been forced out by the company from their traditional dwelling land which they had lived since the British time.

The 10 families told Anthony Mandiau that they are very angry and unhappy about the action taken by the company especially taking down their houses by force. Now they are left with no place to go and stay. The land is actually classified as NCR (Native customary right) land. Their planted fruit trees and other crops were all destroyed.

They complained that why the government did not help them but instead came to demolish their houses and forced them to leave the land that they had stayed for such a long time. Anthony called upon the authorities to investigate into the land grab and to find out why such a small piece of land also being grabbed from the poor families. The big company should seek other land and leave the kampongs alone.

This is a common case in Kota Marudu recently where big company had come to grab the land from the poor kampong folks. It is alleged that some 100,000 hectares had been taken away from the poor kampong people.

These kampong folks had been forced of their NCR land. The government is not taking care of them but only interested to take away their land where they have live for generations. The land grab in Sabah is not only in Kota Marudu district but almost every way in Sabah.

Anthony said this type of land grab stop and the government saying that the ‘people first’ is just a lot of bull-shit. Just because the big company wanted land to plant they just chase the poor kampong folks away and demolish their houses. In fact the government should move them to a new location and even have to build them new homes with facilities and good infrastructure.

The government should listen to the complaints of the people and return their land to them.
