NAJIB WINNABLE PRIME MINISTER!

SABAH Umno Deputy Liaison Chief, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who coined the term 1Malaysia and the architect of the National Key Results Area (NKRA), is ‘Winnable Prime Minister’.

As such, he was confident that the people would rally behind him to continue as Prime Minister compared to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP leader Lim Kit Siang.

In this respect, Salleh said Najib needed strong mandate to continue transforming the economy, thus bringing the country to greater heights.

"I believe Malaysia will be in safe hands under him. That's why we should give Prime Minister a big general election mandate to face economic challenges," he said in his speech when opening the Kota Belud Umno division meeting, here today.

Salleh said Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) was much better than the oppositions in terms of track record and achievement all this while.

"Opposition parties may not be able to match the BN because they have different ideologies and struggles. DAP has its own ideology, PKR promotes its ideals to save a certain leader, with PAS playing up religious sentiments. It's imppossible for them to be together for a longer time.

"Look what happened to Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Selangor. A minority goverment, comprising DAP, PKR and PAS just cannot function effectively," he said.

Salleh said DAP was the dominant force in Pakatan and its two other partners-PAS and PKR - were playing second fiddle to it.

"It's no wonder more leaders and members of the Pakatan Rakyat left the party and joined the BN," he added.

Meanwhile, Salleh reminded Umno members not to be complacent about its vote base or intoxicated by their achievement, instead they should focus on championing the cause of the people.

"National issues could change the tide of support and that's why we cannot be complacent of our own achievement. The political landscape has changed considerably and the mentality of the votes will swing according to situations," he said.

He also chided certain leaders and members of the party who behaved ‘arrogantly’, causing the people to lose interest and defected to other parties.

Salleh urged Umno members to go to the ground regularly and get close to the people.

"A grassroots leader must be a well-liked character, someone who has the ability to serve the people effectively and only then our party becomes winnable. We must be commited to our party's struggle and not for self gain," he said (BERNAMA).
