WHAT’S WRONG WITH UNIFORM SERVICEMAN?

By: DAP MEDIA

THE KOTA KINABALU Member of Parliament Hiew King Cheu expressed his deep concern over the cases of uniform servicemen involved in many cases of assault and causing bodily harm to civilians whether they are innocent or not.

The most recent case happened in Keningau town where a prison officer gang beat up a youth in a convenience store over some alleged small misunderstanding and double parking of a car. There were cases where innocent victim were hurt and even being shot.

The family of the beaten up youth had contacted the KK MP Hiew to seek assistance and advice from him on the case. Hiew said that this is just a typical case where the ordinary people in Malaysia can not tolerate, and it is also hard to believe that it is involving the uniform group who are supposedly taking care of our security and safety of the people. These people who were involved in the case had really brought shame to their forces and disgrace to their uniform.

In the strict sense, our security forces should be in its top discipline and fully abide to the law there is, because they are the one who are there to upkeep the law and enforcement. It is high time that some ‘cleaning up’ job to be taken sternly to reeducate the forces and to reprimand those who had involved in cases.

The incident on using rough bodily attack on civilian and ordinary people who are defenseless is brutal especially so when it is involving many attackers. Where is the so called ‘Friendly Police, and Smiling Cops’?

Hiew said in the case in Keningau, as read from the news that the prison officer was suspected and apparently under the inference of alcohol during the beat up. This is important that the servicemen should have strict control over the consumption of alcohol, if it is not under control and with limited consumption, more trouble will appear.

The serviceman drinker should put himself under self control for not consuming or over drink the alcoholic drinks. This is due to the nature of their job requirement and vested obligation on them.

Furthermore, the ganging up of few men to beat up a youth is definitely an ugly sight, especially involving service men. What went wrong with our society nowadays, and no one is feeling safe now.

Hiew called for a thorough investigation into the beat up case and ensure justice to be carried out properly. He will also bring up the matter to Parliament during the next sitting on 13th of June.
