CLEMENT YEAH NEW CHIEF FOR KK HOKKIEN?

DATUK Clement Yeh, the Publisher cum Managing Director of Sabah Publishing House has been tipped to be the new chief for the KK Hokkiens Association election Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association (KKHA), to succeed its outgoing chief, Datuk Lau Kok Sing.

Yeh who is currently its deputy president is among the 29 incumbents who are seeking re-election in its upcoming election for its 29th Executive Committee. The election has been scheduled on this coming 19 September, which will be held at the Auditorium of the Kian Kok Middle School here, at 11am.

Disclosing this was its vice president I, Datuk T.C Goh when approached at the nomination for the election held at its premises at Gaya Street here on Saturday.

Goh who is also Yeh’s proposer reckoned that Yeh is the most qualified candidate for the said post, citing his long-and-dedicated service to the Association.

Goh also hoped that the election would be a smoothly conducted in accordance to its Constitution and democratic process.

Meanwhile, its Election Sub Committee Chairman, Yee That Hian disclosed that at the closing of the nomination at 12 noon, it received a total number of 29 nominations, which is a record number in its 26-year of history.

Among the incumbents who are seeking re-election in the preliminary round included its vice presidents I, II, III, IV & V namely Datuk T.C Goh, Yee That Hian, Lee Hing Boo, Dennis Gan who is also the youth chief, and Ong Lee Chien who is also the women chief.

Other candidates in the contest are, Tan Guan Hock, Tay Guan Shung, Foo Ken Hiung, Chen Ee Sheng, Chua Seong Keng, Yap Jeng Yung, Tay Kee Hiong, Ng Tze Lian, Low Wai Meng, Wong Bak Kion, Lim Yuen Hooi, Lu Yen Tung, Steven Liaw Chee Kok, Tey Kai Bioh, Lim Fu Yu, Pang Siew Khim, Soo Shau Kiong, Teo Sui Yee, Lee Sze Bioh, Michael Tan, Datuk Ng Song Chuan, Andy Lim and Chua Hong Hiu.

Yee also noted that the said number of nominations had exceeded the number allowed by its Constitution, which is 21. This will be trashed out later during its election.

And those who wished to withdraw from the contest can always write in to inform the Election Sub Committee before 12 noon of 15 September (Wednesday) and it must be endorsed by the Sub Committee in order to be effective.

“Within two weeks after the preliminary round, the Election Sub Committee will then call for a meeting with the 21 successfully-elected candidates and to appoint six of them as the committee members, before proceeding with the second and final round of the election. The Election Sub Committee will then be dissolved once the new Executive Committee is successfully formed,” he explained.

Both the KKHA’s Honorary Life President Datuk Seri Panglima Sari Nuar and its outgoing president, Lau Kok Sing too were present at the occasion to give their moral support to the aspirants.
