DANGEROUS….the drain inlet with its mild steel grating flipped over and the pool of engine oil on the road surface.

A CAR was badly damaged by the mild steel grating covering a drain inlet at the roundabout at Inanam Jalan Kiansaom next to the Mee Ho mini market.

The loosen mild steel grating presents a danger spot in the middle of the road, and the cars always try to avoid it. Today this car is really having a bad luck and ramped on it causing it to spring up to seriously damage to crank-case of the car’s engine. The engine lubricant immediately splashed and spilled over the road surface. The damage to the car is very costly beside the driver having a deep shock.

Edward Ewol Mujie, the Sabah DAP vice chairman was near by to view the situation. He said that this bad mild steel grating springing up could cause more serious situation like the car catch fire or the driver got hurt. It was so dangerous to have something springing up from the road and hit the car under-carriage. It will be worst still if this car lost control and hitting another car.

Edward said that the JKR, DBKK and the authorities should regularly check on the safety of the road and the associated conditions to ensure that no accident will occur. It is true that road accidents may not due to the faults of the drivers but the condition and design of the road can be of a major cause of road accident.

He urges the authorities to stay alert and act immediately on all the bad road condition and repair any damaged items. A simple and small mild steel grating can also be the cause of a major road accident that can also mean lost of lives too.
