TANJONG ARU BEACH FOR HUMAN OR ANIMAL?

By: DAP MEDIA

THE DAP Member of Parliament for Kota Kinabalu Hiew King Cheu asked in Parliament regarding the possibility of allocation be given to repair the street lights and garden lights in the Tanjong Aru beach and the Prince Philip Park in Kota Kinabalu. He said this is very necessary to uplift the facilities to attract more tourists to visit our beautiful beaches.

The Minister of Tourism said that the Ministry has already allocated a sum of RM62.3 million under the 9th Malaysia Plan for the purpose of upgrading facilities and to attract more tourist into Sabah, especially in the main popular locations. The projects launched are mostly upgrading work on tourism spot, on eco-tourism, and the program on Homestay.

Another RM10.5 million has been spent on improving the facilities in Tanjong Aru. The allocation is specially for the uplifting the Kampong Air in Tanjong Aru and the construction of the public toilets in the area which includes the Prince Philip Park.

In the 10th Malaysia Plan, the ‘First Rollin-Plan (2011-2012)’, the Ministry is ready to consider application for allocation from Sabah for the purpose of uplifting the tourism facilities, which including Kota Kinabalu to improve its outlook, comfort, and safety aspect.

Hiew said although such big amount has been allocated but what we can see on site is the run down Tanjong Aru Beach and the abandoned Prince Philip Park, which are eye-sores and the place even our locals do not want to visit.

No one will be proud of the stage of the condition of the Tanjong Aru Beach, let along bringing in our valued tourists to visit the place. The facilities there are badly damaged, which included the street lights and garden lights, benches and collapsed sea wall. Nothing is right in the used-to-be beautiful beach side and park.

Where is the money being spent while our beach remaining unattended to? What happened to all the projects as mentioned? Someone must provide an answer to how the allocations were spent? Did the money being used in the Tanjong Aru beach and Prince Philip Park?

The government must put in an effort to uplift the facilities in the Tanjong Aru Beach and make good the Prince Philip Park especially the lighting system to provide safety and security at night.
