PIPE TRENCH NEXT TO QE2 NOT COVERED

EXPOSE….Edward and John Lee replacing the fallen warning red cone back on to the edge of the deep pipe trench.

THE dangerous water supply pipe trench next to the QEH 2 hospital became a dangerous spot on the crowded road. The 50 feet long pipe trench was excavated for the laying of a 14 inches diameter pipe and is left open for many weeks after the pipe laying work is done. This was a complaint received through E-mail by the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament office.

On site to inspect the deep trench at the busy Jalan Bersatu next to the QEH 2, where usually many cars seeking parking space there, Edward Ewol Mujie and John Lee Kim Seng felt puzzle why the wide and deep pipe trench was not back filled after the pipe laying work is completed.

The complaint said that it is very dangerous when there are many cars on the road, especially there are cars parked on the opposite side on the road shoulder. If the drivers are careless, they can easily fall into the deep trench and get hurt. The situation will be even more dangerous at night or when it rains.

John Lee and Edward picked up the warming red plastic cone from the bottom of the trench and replace them back on the verge of the deep trench. These warning red cones are believed being knocked down by the passing cars. The small warning sign board did not served its function to warn the drivers, because it is too small to be noticed.

Edward Mujie commented on the funniest thing is that the Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and the Minister of Infrastructure Development Tan Sri Pairin Joseph Kittingan lives just in front of this deep dangerous trench and he passes by it every day.

Edward wonders whether he (Pairin) noticed the danger or not. Why he didn’t take any action to get the authorities to immediately make good the dangerously situation, and what happen if some one is killed or seriously injured by this deep trench? We can not allow this matter to continue and as if no one had noticed it. The government will be liable and can be sued, some one must be held responsible.
