SAPP FORCE MINISTER TO RESIGN

By: SAPP MEDIA

SABAH Progressive Party (SAPP) wants Health Minister Datuk Dr Liow Tiong Lai to resign for failing to honour his words to address the healthcare services here.

SAPP said Liow had been coming to Sabah on many occasions but not to announce to good news instead gave excuses, particularly for the delay of the RM72.6 million renovation works at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II (QEH2) in Dah Yeh Villa near here.

His recent statement was on Wednesday when he again repeated his statement that renovation works at the former Sabah Medical Centre (SMC) building was running late before offering a new completion date.

On Aug 11 last year, Liow was reported issuing a stern warning to the contractor concerned, which at that time was 13 days late and he was reported as saying then that the government was serious in completing the project.

Liow also announced that the new completion date was February this year.

A few days later SAPP Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah urged Liow to keep his words because ever since the SMC building was purchased for conversion into a General Hospital, Liow had already made three similar announcements.

The contract work for QEH2 included the construction of a five-storey parking lot, elevators, refurbishment of the accident and emergency department, development of cardiology and cardiothoracic centre as well as expanding minor operation theatres at the nine-storey building.

In the same breath, Chong said that should Liow failed to keep his words to properly address the healthcare services problem in the State Capital, he should gracefully step down and publicly apologise to the people of Sabah.

“In developed countries, such a blatant show of incapability on the part of a Minister is not tolerated and resigning from the post is the only way to redeem the public’s loss of confidence on the government of the day,” said Chong.

“In Japan, though not necessarily now, a person who had publicly ridiculed himself by making false promises even commit hara-kiri (suicide),” he quipped.

SAPP noted that Liow had given many excuses for the delay such as weather condition but pointed out that during the natural disaster in Sze Chuan, China, the government there was able to complete a temporary hospital with all the medical facilities within a few days.

“Our country will be in trouble in the event of such calamity because just doing renovation works take the government years to complete like in the QEH2 case,” said SAPP.

Liow’s credibility as Health Minister was no longer intact since he had shown to the whole world that he was incapable of addressing the healthcare services in the State.

“If he refused to step down then the people of Sabah will know what to do in the coming General Election,” said SAPP.

  11. Hahahaaa :D SAPP mahu menteri kesihatan letak Jawatan??Apa kuasa SAPP sebenarnya. Jika dilihat ini bukan masalah menteri itu pun, tapi kelewatan kontraktor itu dan juga masalah cuaca yang ada sekarang. Tidakkan suruh mereka kerja masa hujan, nanti pekerja semua masuk hospital siapa lagi mahu membina bangunan berkenaan??SAPP sendirikah??
